Наступники штаму коронавірусу «Омікрон» будуть більш заразними, але не обов’язково небезпечнішими. Про це заявила керівниця одного з департаментів ВООЗ Марія Ван Керкхове.
За її словами, протягом останнього тижня у ВООЗ було подано дані про 21 млн заражень штамом «Омікрон», що є новим світовим рекордом.
Є висока ймовірність, що наступні штами будуть ще більш заразними. Але серед науковців немає впевненості в тому, що вірус продовжуватиме мутувати у м’якіші штами.
«Немає жодних гарантій. Ми сподіваємось на це, але гарантій немає, і не можна на це розраховувати», – пояснила вона.
Попри це, ВООЗ схиляється до того, що через аномальну заразність «Омікрону» і збільшення темпів вакцинації наступного року коронавірус все ж може стати ендемічним захворюванням.
