The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is ordering special measures for landings of the Boeing long-haul jet 787 Dreamliner.

FAA has canceled due to security concerns due to the introduction of the new mobile radio standards 5G special measures for landings of Boeing Long Range Jets 787 Dreamliner arranged. If the runway is wet or snowy at airports with 5G service, additional precautions would have to be taken because the machines could require a longer braking distance, the FAA said on Friday.

Problems with landing mode feared

The reason is that a radio frequency range of the new fast internet for mobile phones could get in the way of certain aircraft electronics in landing mode.

It is specifically about the so-called C-Band

in the range of frequencies 3.7-3.98 GHz which could interfere with the radio altimeters of certain aircraft and thus also prevent the braking systems from going into landing mode, says a statement from the US authorities .

According to the FAA, these include 137 Machines in USA and 1,010 affected worldwide.

Introduction postponed

Because of possible risks for the Aviation, the FAA already had the US cellphone giants AT&T and Verizon successfully pushed the 5G introduction at airports, which was actually planned for January 5, by two weeks .
