Inside Kate’s awkward first meet with Prince William: ‘I went bright red and scuttled off’

Prince William and Kate Middleton are famous for sharing sweet signs of affection in public.

The royal couple have been husband and wife for over a decade and seem more in love than ever – they were even seen competing against each other in a rugby match recently.

But, 40 year old Kate has confessed that she wasn’t always so at ease in William’s presence.

During their 2010 engagement interview, the Duchess revealed her reaction to meeting the Prince, 39, for the first time.

She admitted to William: “I went bright red and scuttled off feeling very shy about meeting you. It did take a bit of time to get to know each other.”

The pair say they met at St Andrews University, but royal author Katie Nicholl claims they crossed paths many years before.

William supposedly caught the eye of young Kate when he was nine years old.

A student at Ludgrove Prep School in Berkshire at the time, William and his classmates travelled to St Andrew’s Prep in Sussex for a hockey match. There, the young prince caught the eye of Kate.

As reported by the Express, in her book Kate: The Future Queen, Katie reveals: “Although she [Kate] wasn’t especially interested in boys, the arrival of one particular young man had caught her attention.”

Years later, the pair happily reunited at St Andrews and properly met for the first time.

During their engagement interview, William explained: “When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her. I knew there was possibly something that I wanted to explore there.”

And despite an amicable split in 2007, Kate and William’s love has blossomed over the years and the pair even share three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, together.

The Duchess of Cambridge was warmly welcomed into the Royal Family by the Queen, Prince Charles and William’s little brother Prince Harry, who has since moved to the US with wife Meghan Markle.

Kate enjoys a prime place next to the Queen on the balcony of Buckingham Palace and enjoys a good giggle with the monarch at public engagements.

She’s one of the most recognised faces in Britain – if not the world – but some folk still don’t know who Kate is.
