Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese made history on Sunday by recording her 13th consecutive double-double, breaking a previous record held by WNBA legend Candace Parker.

After the historic night, Reese recognized the impressive feat while also being humble, thanking her teammates and coaches.

“It’s great for me, being able to know where I’m at right now and obviously I’m not satisfied where I’m at,” Reese said, per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. “I have coaches and teammates around me that believe in me and trust me and I just continue to just trust the process of everything. I’m grateful. I’m blessed and lucky to be named with these amazing players. They’ve always been super nice to me. They’ve always been helpful and inspiring to me. I’ve watched them all my life and finally to be here in this moment and break their records and being able to be up there with them is really cool.”

Reese had 17 points and 14 rebounds in Chicago’s loss to the Seattle Storm on Sunday. She now has 14 double-doubles on the year, which is tied for the fifth-most for a rookie in WNBA history, and she has the chance to break the record for the most double-doubles by a rookie.

Tina Charles recorded 22 double-doubles during her rookie year in 2010. With 20 games left this season, Reese reaching that number is very doable.

Reese is having an outstanding first year in the WNBA, putting up 13.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. The former LSU star is making a strong case for Rookie of the Year, with her top competitor being Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, who is averaging 16.1 points, 7.4 assists and six rebounds per game.

While the individual accolades are nice, Reese and the Sky are likely more focused on reaching the playoffs. The loss on Sunday bumped them to eighth place in the WNBA, just behind Clark’s Fever. If Reese can continue putting together double-double performances, Chicago could put together a strong finish this season to earn a playoff berth.
