Chris Eubank Jr claims he didn’t knock out Liam Williams to punish him: ‘I wanna get people like that out of boxing’

Chris Eubank Jr was in bullish mood after defeating Liam Williams in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday night.

According to Next Gen, he could have knocked Williams out at any time and he wants people like The Machine out of boxing.

Eubank Jr suggested that Williams tried to rough him up in the ring, but he still came away with the 116-109, 116-108, 117-109 unanimous decision victory complete with four knockdowns.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, Eubank Jr said he wanted to punish Williams and that’s exactly what he did.

“I wanted to teach this man a lesson. He’d said some very menacing things to me leading up tot his fight and I wanted to punish him. I thought about it before I even got in the ring and , ‘I don’t even wanna knock this guy out in the first round, I wanna punish him.’ I wanna get people like that out of boxing.

“You saw the fight. Headbutts, headlocks, all types of crazy stuff., I’m surprised he didn’t get disqualified. But, I take it like a man and I punished him like I said I was going to do. It was a fun night,” Eubank Jr said.

With three of the four knockdowns coming inside the first four rounds, not many people believed the fight was going to last much longer, but Eubank Jr chose to sit back and invite Williams on with a nice lead accrued from three 10-8 rounds.

Eubank Jr says he boxed like that to prove a point to his critics.

“People always tell me I can’t box,” Eubank Jr started. “Apparently all I can do is come forward, I have no jab so you know what, I thought ‘let me show these critics another side to Eubank Jr.’ A little bit of Roy Jones Jr sauce added to it, show the fans something different.

“There was no danger. If I had stepped on the gas at any point in that fight he would have been gone, but he needed to be taught a lesson.

“I didn’t want to give him an easy way out. I wanted hm to know there’s levels to this game and don’t go out there being a big mouth to guys you can get hurt against. He thought he was something he wasn’t.”

Next Gen moves to to 32-2 and now has either world titles or big names on his mind following his domestic victory in hostile territory.
