The Czech company Creative Dock has entered the new year with an investment appetite. In a short time, it completed its second acquisition. “We have been developing organically since 2012. Now is the time to accelerate growth and bring other players to our group who will enrich our services, “says Creative Dock founder Martin Pejša in an interview for SZ Business.
The German company Rohrbeck Heger, which it acquired in its portfolio, specializes in forecasting and innovation. “We made the purchase last week. They specialize in predicting scenarios where the market will move in five to ten years. Their clients are large companies such as Adidas, Mercedes or Bosch and they predict what will happen in individual sales segments, “explains Pejša.
Rohrbeck Heger will still be fully integrated into the Creative Dock. “They will become a part of us to the level that we will make their services available to all clients,” adds Pejša.
Turnover 700 million
During its existence, Creative Dock has launched almost 70 startups, the most famous of which are Zonky built to measure for Home Credit or Hoppy Go for Škoda Auto
The company was also successful in the covid pandemic. “At the beginning of the pandemic, we lost almost 50 percent of revenue. But then the business started to grow and today we are bigger than we were before the pandemic, “says Pejša, adding that the company’s turnover is around 700 million.
“We expect to grow quite significantly. We have relatively aggressive plans. We believe that this quarter we will have a record for closed partnerships, “says Pejša, adding that while the company now has 16 projects across Europe, it expects that their number will reach 25 to 30 this year.
Our model works by working with large companies. These are our clients and we have learned to make good use of their know-how, customer base, technology, brand, etc.
‘Over the last three years, we have focused on banking and insurance. We would like to have 60 to 70 percent of projects there. In the rest, we want to discover new things, “adds Pejša, adding that the company has now, for example, won three contracts for startups for industrial production. For example steelworks
Know-how of large companies
While in traditional startups only about two out of ten usually succeed and survive, in the Creative Dock this ratio is reversed
Náš Our model works by working with large companies. These are our clients and we have learned to make good use of their know-how, customer base, technology, brand and the like. On the other hand, we will probably never build so-called unicorns, Uberas, etc., “says Pejša, adding that it usually takes three to five years to create a custom startup for a customer. “We want to hand over companies that are already large. It has not worked for us to hand over companies that are small, then it will be lost in that company. “
