NewDelhi,Oct07: KarnatakaCongresspresidentDKShivakumarandhisbrotherDKSureshhavebeensummonedbytheEnforcementDirectorate(ED)onFridayinconnectionwithitsongoingmoneylaunderingprobeintotheoperationsoftheCongressparty-ownedNationalHeraldnewspaper.
”I’vebeensummonedbyED.Irequestedthemtocallbothme&mybrotherDKSureshafterOct23butconcernedofficerdirectedustopresentbeforehimnonetheless.Soweleftyatrainmiddleandreachedhere,” Shivakumarsaid.
Theagencyhassummonedhim&hisbrother,MPDKSureshtobepresentphysicallyintheagency’sDelhiofficeonOctober7forquestioninginconnectionwithaproberelatedtotheirfinancialcontributiontoYoungIndiaPrivateLimited.Thebrothershadrequestedtheagencytopostponethedate,citingtheBharatJodoYatra.

OnThursday,theprobeagencyhadrejectedShivakumar’srequesttoputoffhisquestioninginamoneylaunderingcasebytwoweeks.
ShivakumarsaidthattheagencyofficialshasturneddownhispleaforexemptionfromappearancebeforetheagencyonOctober7inamoneylaunderingcase.Speakingtoreporters,hesaid,”IhadrequestedtimetoappearinfrontofEDwhichwasdenied.Iwilldiscusswithmyleadersandtakeacall.”
InafreshmessagetoShivakumar,theEDhastoldhimtomakehimselfavailablebeforetheagencyonFriday,newsagencyPTIreported.”YouareonceagaindirectedtopresentyourselfbeforemeatmyofficeforrecordingofyourstatementonOctober7,2022aspersummonsdatedSeptember23,2022,” saidanemailsentbyEDAssistantDirectorKuldeepSingh.
Shivakumar,whoispresentlyparticipatingintheCongreess’BharatJodoYatrawhichispassingthroughKarnataka,hadrequestedtheprobeagencytoallowhimexemptionfromappearancetillOctober21.
TheEnforcementDirectoratehassummonedShivakumarforquestioninginitsongoingmoneylaunderingprobeintotheoperationsoftheCongressparty-ownedNationalHeraldnewspaper,official.
The60-year-oldformercabinetministerwaslastquestionedbythefederalagencyonSeptember19inthenationalcapitalinanothermoneylaunderingcaselinkedtoallegedpossessionofdisproportionateassets.
