Dozens of children in Montana took part in the #BeActiveTour of European Sports Week

Montana welcomed European Sports Week with demonstrations in basketball, table tennis, indoor soccer, boxing, kickboxing, chess, folk ball and tug of war. The sports holiday in the city was part of the EC’s #BeActiveTour initiative. The event is organized by the Municipality of Montana in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The aim is to promote sports, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among adolescents.

In SC “Ogosta” over 200 children from sports clubs and school teams presented their activities to the residents of the city. A special greeting for the guests was prepared by the cheerleading group and dance group “Dance Machine” from the Municipal Youth Home in Montana.

The Chief of Staff of the Minister of Youth and Sports and Head of the European Sports Week project Alexander Georgiev and the Mayor of Montana Zlatko Zhivkov welcomed the participants in #BeActive.

“I thank the Municipality of Montana for its efforts to develop sports and promote physical activity. Montana is the city of Yordanka Blagoeva, Stilian Petrov, Shihan Toni Petrov and many prominent athletes who have brought pride not only to the city but also to Bulgaria. “, Alexander Georgiev addressed the participants in #BeActiveTour and added that the initiative enjoys more and more greater popularity.

Mayor Zlatko Zhivkov proudly reminded that Montana is a sports city and is happy to accept such initiatives. He received an honorary plaque from the IMC for the support provided in the implementation of the initiative #BeActive European Sports Week 2021.

Among the guests of the sports holiday were also Rositsa Angelova and Daniela Marinova from the Regional Department of Education – Montana. The event was held in strict compliance with the measures against the spread of COVID-19.

# BeActive is part of an initiative of the European Commission to promote sports and physical activity of EU citizens. The national coordinator for Bulgaria is MMC. The project is co-financed by the European Union’s Erasmus program.

Before the launch of #BeActiveTour, the head of the cabinet of the Minister of Youth and Sports Alexander Georgiev and the mayor of Montana Zlatko Zhivkov held a working meeting. Tomorrow (September 30) #BeActiveTour is in Vidin.
