Fendi x Versace Collaboration At The Milan Fashion Week

So, ‘Fendace’ just happened. The Fendi x Versace collaboration finally took place at the Milan Fashion Week, after months of rumours.

“It’s a first in the history of fashion,” said Donatella Versace, where two major fashion designers had a “true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship.” The event took place today at Versace’s headquarters located at Via Gesù in Milan, Italy.

Called “The Swap” in the same way that Gucci x Balenciaga was termed a “Hacking Lab,” Fendace merged elements of both brands into an extensive, flashy mélange. “Swap” is an appropriate description, considering Fendi’s Kim Jones and Versace swapped their roles.

The collection mixed the Fendi monogram with Versace’s signature Greek Key motif, while the Fendi by Versace collection featured a punk-rock aesthetic, with safety pins embellishing Fendi pieces. A number of notable celebrities and models were in attendance, including the likes of Dua Lipa, Evan Mock, Winnie Harlow, Gigi Hadid, Kate Moss, Emily Ratajkowski and many others.

Earlier this year, Gucci and Balenciaga partnered for a collaborative collection. Gucci unveiled the ‘Aria’ collection in collaboration with Balenciaga, to celebrate the fashion house’s 100th anniversary.

Creative Director Alessandro Michele made models walk down the runway in a film-set film-set version of London’s Savoy Hotel, where fashion house founder Guccio Gucci got the inspiration to return home to Florence and open his own leather goods shop, specializing in travel bags that he had admired working as a bellhop.  A medley of Gucci-themed pop songs was played in the background throughout to bring out the aesthetic of the show.

“Gucci was born under some kind of constellation because the power it holds is nearly inexplicable,” Michele told in a video press conference.
