Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had forecast an iPad Air with an OLED screen for 2022. Now Kuo has revised his prediction. One reason: Zoff between Apple and Samsung.
In March of this year the renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo declares that it assumes that Apple Will launch an iPad Air with an OLED screen in 2022. Now Kuo has revoked this prognosis. Instead of an OLED screen, the iPad Air 2022 will be equipped with an LCD panel as before. One of the reasons is said to have been the failed negotiations between Samsung and Apple about the production of OLED panels for a future 11.9-inch iPad Air. But that’s probably not all.
As Kuo in a message to investors: macrumors.com , announced that Apple was not satisfied with either the cost or the quality of the panels. Media reports suggest that Samsung was not ready to manufacture the OLED panels in the dual-stack process. Two of the OLED panels are placed on top of each other, which means that the tablet display is significantly brighter and more durable. In addition to Samsung, there are other manufacturers of OLED panels. However, they are unlikely to be able to provide enough production capacities in the short term.
Kuo has another possible reason for the probable end of the planned iPad Air with OLED screen for 2022 in the quiver. Because in the coming year Apple wants to introduce an eleven-inch iPad Pro with mini LED. This should then be the focus of a possible new iPad fleet. So far, only the tablet flagship iPad Pro has a 12.9-inch display Mini-LED . An iPad Air with an OLED screen could seriously compete with the
Although the iPad Air will initially continue with LCD screen should come along, Apple should continue to work on new display technologies, as Kuo thinks. In the medium term, however, Apple should try to find a new OLED manufacturer after the rift with Samsung. A suitably equipped iPad Air is not expected before 2023.
