iPhone factory closes due to mass food poisoning

Over 250 workers have already had to be treated for food poisoning.

The Indian iPhone manufacturing factory of Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn remains closed longer. The plant, which has been closed for a week because of mass food poisoning , will not open for another 3 days, said a person familiar with the matter to the Reuters news agency.

The government is now controlling the workers’ accommodation. Most recently, more than 250 women had to be treated for food poisoning. The cause of the poisoning is still unclear.

The incident could have something to do with the living conditions of the workers. You live in hostels near the factory so that you can get to work as quickly as possible. Foxconn has contracts with 11 sub-companies that provide accommodation and meals for the employees.

Around 17,000 people , most of them women. According to the insider, around 1,000 of them will start working again on Thursday. Apple is already struggling with delivery bottlenecks as a result of the corona pandemic.
