Italian side plot move for Man United defender

Manchester United suffered yet another defeat on Thursday as they were beaten 2-0 by Wolves at Molineux.

Goals from Matheus Cunha and Huang Hee-chan ensured back-to-back victories for new Wolves manager Vitor Pereira, condemning United to a fourth defeat in five Premier League games.

The result leaves the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League table, and they look increasingly likely to miss out on qualification for any sort of European football next term.

In the meantime, it appears that a European club is chasing one of United’s defenders.

As per Italian outlet Napoli Calcio Live via GiveMeSport, Serie A side Napoli are eyeing a move for United defender Luke Shaw.

The report claims that Napoli – managed by former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte – have identified Shaw and Man United teammate Marcus Rashford as transfer targets ahead of the January window.

It is also claimed that the Premier League side could be willing to allow Shaw, 29, to leave.

Shaw has played just 70 minutes since England Euro 2024 final defeat against Spain in the summer

The Englishman has suffered relentlessly with injuries throughout his senior career, and is now sidelined once again having suffered another injury after recently making his long-awaited return.

The left-back has been limited to just 70 minutes of action so far this season, and the report suggests that United are willing to sell the player as Amorim has deemed him surplus to requirements.

Shaw has played more than 275 games for United since joining from Southampton in 2014, but it appears increasingly likely that he may leave the club in the coming months.

Napoli boss Conte has identified the England international as a suitable target due to his ability to play as a wing-back or centre-back in a back-three system, the report claims.

Shaw has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract.
