The Batman marque une nouvelle étape dans la mythologie du personnage. Matt Reeves délivre une nouvelle interprétation du justicier. Joué par Robert Pattinson, Bruce Wayne endosse le costume du super-héros depuis seulement deux ans. Alfred n’approuve pas forcément ses agissements et Batman combat plusieurs méchants comme le Riddler et le Pingouin. En marge de la sortie prochaine du long-métrage, Robert Pattinson fait le tour des médias et n’hésite pas à livrer de nouvelles informations.

Robert Pattinson est bavard. Très bavard. Lors d’une interview, le comédien décrit son Bruce Wayne comme « bizarre » et apporte plus de détails.

J’ai vraiment trouvé un petit fil conducteur intéressant. Il n’est pas un playboy, il est un peu bizarre en tant que Bruce Wayne et aussi en tant que Batman. J’ai pensé qu’il y a une approche plus nihiliste à ça. Parce que, normalement dans les autres films, il s’en va, s’entraîne, revient à Gotham City et pense qu’il va changer les choses. Il croit en lui. Mais cette fois-ci, ça ne marche même pas. Deux ans que ça dure, le crime empire depuis que Bruce porte le costume. Les habitants pensent qu’il est un symptôme de plus dans le délabrement de la société. Cette scène où il tabasse tout le monde sur le quai de la gare, il sauve un type qui lui dit que c’est pire ! Soit tu te fais agresser par un gang, soit un monstre débarque et tabasse tout le monde. Il n’a aucune idée qu’on vient de le sauver, il voit juste un type qui ressemble à un loup-garou.

Vous l’aurez compris, l’approche du personnage se veut plus nihiliste dans The Batman. Bruce Wayne se confronte à la méfiance des habitants de Gotham City et ne semble pas apporter de solution au crime.
