Married at First Sight UK has kept us all on our toes with their explosive new season, and model-turned-sports journalist Amy Christophers has often been at the centre of the drama.

In an exclusive interview with OK!, the stunning TV star opened up about the health struggles which impacted how some of the E4 show’s scenes played out, and slammed trolls who have branded her ‘toxic’ and even ‘abusive’ over the past few weeks.

Cornwall native Amy, who is now back in her hometown as the show airs, also said her and Josh were often flirting in between some of their fiery exchanges.

The 34-year-old explained: “We filmed 12 hour days for two to three months, so that’s a lot of footage they have, and 99 per cent of the time I was cracking jokes, me and Josh are always flirting.

“When I was filming it, I knew it was a real reaction, but they didn’t see Josh winding me up for an hour beforehand and I snapped, cause like everyone, I have a limit.”

Earlier on in the social experiment dating show, both Amy, Josh, 26, and all of the other contestants embarked on ‘yes week’, where one half of the couple got to call the shots.

Funnyman Josh, who like Amy is an ex-model, was given the power, which led to a handful of heated exchanges as Amy attempted to take charge and declined some of his suggestions.

Amy was seen refusing to drink a healthy-looking smoothie and yelling at her new hubby, but according to the TV star, there’s more to the story.

“So during yes week, of course I like to have control over what I eat because I have a lot of dietary requirements, I’ve got IBS for starters so a lot of things upset me,” Amy explained.

“In relation to the smoothie thing, what really happened was that firstly, we didn’t have a juicer. I actually bought Josh that smoothie maker, but that drink he made me should’ve been a juice, not a smoothie.

“I was there getting ready and he was there talking to the camera people, and I was like ‘oh did they get a juicer in?’, and he was literally adding a whole lemon in without peeling it, spinach, loads of stuff.”

She continued: “If it was a juice then fine, I would’ve happily enjoyed it, but in a smoothie all congealed up…

“I did drink half of it, and there was funny bits where we both started cracking up cause I nearly choked on it.

“Then, there was the whole egg thing and Josh was winding me up like ‘and now for the raw egg!’, and when I threw the phone, it wasn’t at him, it was at the sofa, nowhere near him.

“Then, he hard-boiled an egg for it, and was winding me up about knowing nothing about nutrition.”

Amy continues: “I was like ‘Hun, ten years of being a model and having a stay a size six for ten years, I know about fitness and I know about nutrition’, so he was winding me up.

“People don’t see him doing that, and the whole time this chunky smoothie was just getting rank on the side! It was minging, I felt like I was in the jungle doing a bushtucker trial!”

Going on to clarify what went down during ‘asparagus-gate’, in a scene aired during last week’s dinner party where the star snaps at Josh after he repeatedly asks her to try his butter-soaked asparagus, Amy opened up on her struggle with being lactose intolerant and having IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

IBS is a condition which affects the digestive system, and causes symptoms such as stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation if those who have it aren’t careful with what they consume.

Amy said: “That’s when ‘asparagus-gate’ came into it. I was like ‘I’m not gonna eat that!’, cause yes, I’m not gonna eat it because I’m lactose intolerant – anyone who has lactose intolerance know that butter is not good for it.

“It was literally all over the asparagus, I took one bite and my stomach started hurting and I felt unwell, I was wearing a jumpsuit and I didn’t have my Buscopan with me.

“Luckily I didn’t get really ill, but I did have horrendous cramps the whole time at the dinner table and that affected my mood.

“Josh was like ‘eat it, eat it!’, but that is just me and Josh, we do wind each other up a lot!”

The star added that: “I get why they see me in a certain light, but to be called toxic and that, it’s really hurtful.”

Amy was quick to admit she was shocked by viewers’ comments about her, saying: “At the moment I’m really struggling with how people are perceiving me.”

Whilst she and husband Josh Christie have had a lot of positive responses, she’s had a constant stream of scathing messages and opening up about the trolling she’s experienced, Amy said: “They’re like ‘wow you’re so toxic, you’re so abusive’ – the things they’re saying are really damaging to someone’s character so when I’m reading these things, it’s really upsetting.”

The star also defended her behaviour on the show, stating: “It was literally just that 1 per cent”, adding that she is always “a bit of a clown” and “funny”.
