Mbah Approves Payment Of Gratuities To Enugu Retirees

Governor Peter Mbah

Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the payment of backlogs of gratuities owed to state retirees.

To this end, the state government has announced the commencement of a verification exercise for gratuity and related entitlements, starting on Monday, 24th February 2025.

This is contained in a release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, and made available to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday.

Onyia stated that the exercise was specifically for individuals who are due for gratuity payments and related entitlements.

According to him, “This announcement follows the successful completion of the verification exercises for active workers and pensioners, conducted earlier. The government appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders during the exercise and looks forward to the same level of participation and compliance during the gratuity verification.”

He said the purpose of the gratuity verification exercise was to update and validate the records of retirees and their next of kin, ensure that only legitimate beneficiaries receive their gratuity and related payments, eliminate fraud, discrepancies, and delays in the payment process, and create a reliable and accurate database for future reference.

He said those eligible for the exercise were retirees yet to receive their gratuity payments and next of kin of deceased retirees who are due for gratuity or related entitlements.

He urged those who are unable to attend due to ill health to provide signed affidavits or letters of consent authorising a representative to submit their documents on their behalf.
