Money speaks – the journalism of Balázs Bobory

Not applicable. No regrets, however, Gerard Piqué was content to be falsely reported in the press and simply put a reference on his social media site to prove to the general public how much money he was making because he was playing football for a large audience.

Let’s just say Pique has the slightest problem these days, hopefully as a sportsman he’s thinking about how he could help his beloved team, FC Barcelona, back to the top. His coach, his old teammate, the in-depth manager, the mind, Xavi, is trying to end the chaos that reigns over the Catalans, but his knife, if not broken yet, seems ineffective enough to solve the task. Barca is an eclectic example of how a club can downsize from the highest level year after year, both in terms of human resources and economics. The pomegranate blues are there to push self-educated young people to the forefront again (money is very different), only in today’s modern football can construction rarely be fast, and there are even “houses” that are never completed…

In such a harsh situation, it’s no wonder that one of the club’s iconic figures, Piqué, jumps on the fake news in the tabloid, even though he would probably laugh at the four-meter couch of his pooled villa next to his singer Shakira. Especially since the routine midfielder no longer really makes a living from football, he has long built himself as a businessman in addition to his sports career – for example, his largest company, Kosmos, has been organizing the Davis Cup series of tennis, which has been renewed for three years.

So Piqué doesn’t stack his Eurocents from box to box at home, but strives to be successful in the business world once he has won the Champions League, World and European Championships throughout his football career. However, it is not taken into the stomach if it is set as a column, a burden in times of emergency because of a presumed high salary. It seems to him that all of Barcelona’s troubles stem from his high wages, and now, apparently to prevent any rumors, he has actually put out an ace.

Gerard Piqué in the social media responded to a misleading, untrue article from a journalist. The journalist said, among other things, that the defender was the best-earning player in the Catalans, taking home € 28 million a year.

, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Although the aging Piqué has always been one of the best in his position, his “invisibility” and the ungrateful role of the defenders clearly did not allow him to rise above his two colleagues from “space”, which is why the journalist’s explanation of Piqué’s well-being is illogical.

So, the defender simply grabbed himself, photographed the half-yearly pay slip transferred by FC Barcelona, the digital voucher for less than two and a half million euros, and made it public. Of course, some of the armchairs immediately reacted that they still didn’t need to eat greasy bread with red onions at the end of the month, but that’s not the point.

Piqué knows that his beloved club is in trouble also, which, in the light of previous triumphal processions, endures anyway, but it is no longer tolerated that he is being blamed for the hardships that the Catalan chariot is rumbling in.

There is a well-functioning practice in America. Organizers of the most popular sports simply oblige professional athletes and clubs to make public contracts for everyone, so everyone knows exactly how many hundreds of millions of dollars the Los Angeles Lakers basketball player LeBron James has popped up in recent decades. Of course, there is no credible source of revenue from other activities, presumably even higher, but it is reassuring for fans to know how much their pet will be compensated for their performance on the floor.

This, of course, requires social culture as well. Americans, for example, only rummage in your pocket until they know how much is in it. And of course they also know that the show has to be paid for. Anyone who delivers the experience to tens or hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, earns more than a factory job. Quite simply because many are interested in its performance. And not only because of its quality, because a carpenter can make flawless furniture every day, but also because it entertains many.

In Europe, especially in the former socialist countries, this is an insoluble anomaly. What to do when the market dictates, and sport can only be made competitive if athletes are promised salaries close to the West?

man over all demagoguery and just jokes about how much better the millions that footballers put in their pockets would show up in health care, possibly education. Of course, I am not saying that the situation in these two sectors is satisfactory, but it will never be, while there are priorities in other areas of life – to say the least, in terms of body integrity, a healthy lifestyle and entertainment in terms of professional sport. last in line. Traceable who was (I don’t speciel name) the very multiple national footballer who has spent most of his career abroad, who, when asked how irritating it is that footballers earn a lot, replied: no one was forbidden to play ball as a child. ask for Christmas… Obviously, many people clench their fists when reading the answer, but provocation is sometimes answered with provocation. In the English public discourse, no one was surprised at how many hundred thousand pounds a week a Chelsea midfielder earns per week, but in Hungary we hear the following calculation, which breaks down the benefit into minutes / forints. Sport has now become an industry, an integral part of which is sales, marketing and advertising. The coefficient of these determines the amount of revenue, and the profit also prices the producers of the product. Anyone who pays Gerard Piqué’s salary can safely even fight against the allowance of Robert De Niro, who pockets $ 15 million into his pocket after a filming. Crazy amount? The! Is it still worth paying someone? Yes! The reason is simple: for the production, many people go to the cinema and indulge in the experience for an hour and a half, eliminating worries, problems at work and private life.

There is so much competition for quality labor, so every need for a satisfactory product that it is indeterminate how athletes ’performance can be priced“ normally ”. The market decides everything, so it’s pointless to think even about obvious overruns, overpricing, if someone thinks it’s worth the investment and worth paying for as a military officer.

Going back to Pique: the footballer has already put down on the table to show fity to the envious, but at the same time he made an attempt to talk openly about salaries. I don’t care about other pockets, it’s more about what’s going on in the game, say, on the green lawn.
