Since its origins as a monthly DVD delivery service, Netflix has always had a penchant for pipedream-esque business plans. And, when the media company announced in 2017 that they wanted original content to make up half of their streaming library, people were surprised, and curious. But they put their money where their mouth was–investing $8 billion towards commissioning and producing original series and movies—and the rest is history.
In the time since, Netflix has put out, yes some Hallmark-esque fare, but exponentially more critically acclaimed films—including Oscar winners like Roma, Marriage Story, and Mank, to name a few. By the looks of it, we’re in for an equally exciting 2022 on the platform. As highly anticipated sequels like Knives Out 2 and remakes like Texas Chainsaw Massacre loom on the horizon, you’ll want to keep a close eye on your New Releases tab. But, if you’re looking for a definitive list of release dates for this year’s top contenders, we’ve got you covered.
Check back throughout the year for updates as new releases are announced. Until then, here are the most anticipated Netflix original films in 2022 so far.

Bubble (April 28, 2022)
Romance is often mused about under the laws of gravity. We fall for lovers, being drawn to their gravitational pull, taking the leap into love. But what does love look like in a world where gravity doesn’t exist? Set in an imagined Tokyo after an explosion turns the city into a floating anti-gravity island, this animated film follows two teenagers who find one another amidst a world where all seems lost. From Death Note director Tetsurō Araki, this is a must-watch for anime and fantasy fans alike.
Knives Out 2 (TBA)
Not much is known about the next installment of the Knives Out franchise. But, we know that it’s not meant to be a direct sequel, but rather following in an anthology format with an all-new plot and characters. (Save for Daniel Craig, who will be reprising his role.) We also know that it was at least partially filmed in Greece, and that its cast is filled with some surprising suspects–including Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Kate Hudson. The rest? Is still a mystery …
Enola Holmes 2: Case of the Left-Handed Lady (TBA)

Slumberland (TBA)
The early 20th-century comic strip series Little Nemo in Slumberland had already received a movie adaptation in 1989. Little is known about the film so far, but the cast will include stars like Jason Momoa, Weruche Opia, Kyle Chandler, and Chris O’Dowd.
