Nicaragua challenged Argentina during a hearing in Washington by the OAS

The government of Daniel Ortega said that the Iranian accused by the AMIA “will always have open doors.” It was stated by the Nicaraguan ambassador to the OAS in reference to the presence of Mohsen Rezai at the presidential inauguration ceremony this month in Managua.

Today 16:47 The Nicaraguan ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Arturo McFields, challenged Argentina on Wednesday at a hearing in Washington to condemn the presence of the Iranian official suspected of the AMIA attack who was invited to the inauguration of President Daniel Ortega in Managua. Nicaragua, he said, “can invite whoever they want” and added that “if a person arrives with a good attitude, “the doors are always open.”The Nicaraguan ambassador’s statements came after the OAS Permanent Council approved a resolution proposed by Argentina and the United States, which was approved by an overwhelming majority and the opposition of Nicaragua. It condemned the presence of Mohsen Rezai, one of those accused by the Argentine justice system as the intellectual author of the bombing of the Jewish mutual fund, at the resumption ceremony of the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, a man accused of human rights violations. human rights and imprisoning opposition politicians.Rezai has an Interpol arrest warrant and his presence was not reported by the Managua government or by Ambassador Daniel Capitanich, who was also present at the ceremony and, according to him, did not know the Iranian.McFields’ words were the first official reaction to the vote on the OAS text. “The Nicaraguan delegation is really surprised by this announcement that has been made today because we did not have access to the declaration to evaluate it, to consider a corresponding response. However, we must say that Nicaragua, as a sovereign country, as an independent nation, and as a dignified people, can invite whoever it wishes to its country to the inauguration of President Daniel Ortega,” said the diplomat at the OAS headquarters, and He completed by saying that “if that person arrives with a good attitude, they will always have open doors”.Mc Fields also highlighted that the Argentine ambassador in Managua, Daniel Capitanich, was also present at the same inauguration ceremony for Ortega, who chose to remain in place, an attitude that earned the government of Alberto Fernández criticism from the political opposition and also from Jewish entities and the government of Israel itself. The resolution approved by the OAS also urges the continent to respect Interpol’s red alerts in relation to the AMIA attack. The resolution was presented by Argentine representative Cecilia Villagra (Ambassador Carlos Raimundi was not present) and calls for “support for Argentina’s efforts to see justice done for the attack and condemn Rezai’s visit to Nicaragua and the hemisphere as an affront to the Argentine justice and the victims”.It also “urges the Nicaraguan authorities, the members of the inter-American system and Interpol to act appropriately with the notification of the red alerts related to the AMIA attack.”The resolution highlights that “Rezai faces charges in Argentina for doubly aggravated homicide committed for racial and religious reasons for endangering citizens by killing 85 people” and that the countries are “alarmed because on January 10, 2022 he traveled to Managua at the invitation of Daniel Ortega”.
