Netflix’s plans to enter the video game business are taking shape with the purchase of a development studio. The video streaming giant swallows the company Night School Studio, founded in 2014, which is best known for its debut game “Oxenfree”, as the companies announced on Tuesday. A purchase price was not mentioned.
Netflix sees video games as a promising area for expansion beyond the core business of video streaming. In the summer, the company already hired industry veteran Mike Verdu, who had previously worked for the large game company Electronic Arts, to manage the division.
At the same time, Netflix co-boss Ted Sarandos left open at a conference appearance on Monday when the company’s range of games should start. The company said it was still at an early stage when it announced the purchase of the night school.
