It came out during Monday’s press conference with the Odd management.
– We believe that Jan Frode has a lot to contribute, and therefore we wanted him to continue in another role and have given him a sincere offer, said general manager Einar Håndlykken.
– Nornes has conveyed through his lawyer that it is not available for him to continue in another role. Then it remains for us to agree with Jan Frode on a negotiation about the contract he has that extends until 2023, said Håndlykken, who emphasized that his contract is still valid, and that Nornes has not been fired.
Must meet at work
On Saturday, Odd announced that the club will change coach.
– Odds ball club has after an overall assessment come to the conclusion that the best thing for the club now is a change of coach. The club is therefore in talks with Jan Frode Nornes about a solution for the best for both parties, wrote Odd.
As the situation is now, Nornes must meet at work as head coach when The Odd team gathers for joint training on Wednesday. This is stated by leader Teddy Moen in the Norwegian Football Coaches Association to Varden .
– Nornes has requirements on and duty to attend work. He has neither received dismissal nor been dismissed. Here the coach must be professional, although I would think that most people understand that his authority is now weakened, says Moen.
23 years
Nornes has led Odd as head coach for the last two seasons. Before that he was an assistant to Dag-Eilev Fagermo for a number of years.
Odd delivered a relatively good spring season in 2021, but finished weakly with just one win in the last ten games. Thus, the team finished in 13th place in the Eliteserien.
At the same time, the ski team is on to the quarterfinals in the NM.
According to TA, Nornes has been in Odd for 23 years. First as a player, later as an assistant and then as head coach.
The club is already looking for a new sports manager.
