The release date for Disney Plus’ anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series may have been leaked if a now-deleted tweet by a Disney exec is anything to go by.
Disney Plus executive Brandon San Giovanni referenced the potential release date in a tweet that read, “Our very own Obi-Wan wi [sic] be saying “hello, there,” on Disney+… May 2022.”
After publications began to pick up on the apparent leak, the tweet was deleted. San Giovanni’s Twitter account is currently protected.
Some fans speculate that San Giovanni is referring to Marvel’s new Obi-Wan comic, which is also releasing in May. However, The Hollywood Reporter weighed in to say that the rumors are indeed true, and that Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut in May.
It only makes sense given Obi-Wan Kenobi’s potential to fall on May 4th — a date that has become a proper holiday for Star Wars fans. It would also offer some breathing room for Book of Boba Fett, which wraps up its run on February 9.
For now, we know very little of about Obi-Wan Kenobi. A brief teaser foreshadowed a secret duel with Darth Vader, but nothing else has been shown to this point. In the meantime, Disney has a large number of Star Wars shows in the pipeline, including a live-action series featuring fan-favorite Jedi Ahsoka Tano.
