The driver of a 1950s Ford lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and overturned, causing the death of one of its occupants and serious injuries to two other people who were traveling inside.
“Accident in front of the Cienfuegos cemetery”, reported a user of the Facebook group ‘Bus & Truck Accidents. For more experience and fewer victims!’, accompanying his publication with photos of the state in which the accident car was left.
“I heard someone say that the car left the highway that comes from Punta Las Cuevas and took 5 de Septiembre at high speed. The accident was right next to the house that is in front of the cemetery entrance. I think they did not collide with anything, the car went up the sidewalk, from the photos you can see that it turned around. When I passed by today, the vehicle had already been taken away”, indicated a user of the group in the comments.
According to the information shared by other users, the deceased could be the driver and owner of the Ford himself, known in Cienfuegos as Maikel (surnames are unknown). At the time of writing this note, the event had not been reported by the authorities or official media.
“Maikel, friend of many and a very good boy. May God have it in glory; My condolences to his family”, expressed an Internet user who claimed to recognize the vehicle and be a friend of its owner.
For his part, another user added that “ of the other two that came with him [Maikel], there is one with a skull fracture, and the other with many blows”. It is about a father and his son, he indicated.
“It was a disgrace; A very dear friend for many people died, a brother for me, ”said another in the comments. It happened “in front of [cementerio] Tomás Acea”, said a forum member, while another confirmed that it was the “boy from the Ford with the 5 C Mercedes”.
“I found out a while ago about my friend Maikel’s accident. I still can not believe it; a boy full of life and joy that death took from us in the blink of an eye. Rest in peace my brother”, lamented an acquaintance, while another described the deceased as “a good boy, my partner in the piquera”.
Known in Cuba as “almendrones”, US-made cars from the first half of the 20th century still circulate on the roads of Cuba. Due to their age and difficulties in maintaining and replacing parts, these are vehicles that pose a potential danger in daily use.
