Few fighters have burst onto the UFC with as much fanfare as Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett. The former Cage Warriors champ debuted in the Octagon at UFC Vegas 36, knocking out Luigi Vendramini in an all-out brawl.
Since that win, Pimblett has called himself the promotion’s latest “cash cow” (much to Sean O’Malley’s chagrin) and stated that he expected a slew of call outs to come. At last night’s UFC Vegas 38, one fighter decided to fulfill part of Pimblett’s prophecy, by asking for a fight with the brash rookie.
After beating Joe Solecki by split decision on the undercard Jared Gordon singled out Pimblett in his in-cage interview. When asked who he wanted next, Gordon began chanting “Paddy”.
“Nothing malicious, I like the guy,” added Gordon. “But, I beat his teammate Chris Fishgold and he wanted to get that one back, so come and get it.”
It didn’t take long for Pimblett to respond. “Let’s do this,” he wrote on Twitter.
The win for Gordon last night gave ‘Flash’ his first three-fight win streak in the UFC. The first of those wins was a unanimous decision against Fishgold in 2020. Then he beat Danny Chavez this February, also by unanimous decision.
Gordon, a former CFFC featherweight champion, has a 6-6 record in the UFC (18-4 overall).
Pimblett has a 17-3 record. He won the Cage Warriors featherweight title in 2016 and defended it on one occasion; versus Julian Erosa, albeit controversially.
