The share of electric vehicles in the total sales of the brand in Europe reaches 40%
Porsche’s global sales exceeded 300,000 vehicles for the first time in 2021 as the carmaker overcame the chip shortage to meet growing demand for its cars, especially plug-in models, according to Automotive News Europe. Deliveries in 2021 increased by 11 percent to 301,915 units, exceeding the previous record of 280,800 units reported in 2019 The all-electric Taycan sedan surpassed the iconic 911 sports car for the first time with 41,296 deliveries, an increase of 106 percent on an annual basis. The company sold 38,464 units of the 911 model. This is a 12% increase compared to 2020 In Europe, the share of electric cars and hybrids in the total sales of the brand reaches 40%. Porsche joins Bentley, another brand in the Volkswagen Group, with record sales last year. BMW’s Rolls-Royce brand also reported strong performance in 2021 . Porsche noted that demand is growing in all regions, with the US market experiencing the most significant growth – 22 percent, to 70,025 vehicles. China remains the largest market for the brand with 8 percent growth to 95,671 cars. The brand’s best-selling car for 2021 is the Macan with 88,362 units delivered, followed by the larger Cayenne SUV with 83,071 sales. The Panamera model realized 30,220 sales. The company points out that the demand remains strong in the new year. “We are starting 2022 with momentum and confidence in all regions of the world,” said Detlev von Platen, Head of Sales and Marketing.
