The Detroit container port complex published the results of its activities for the year 2021, this Wednesday, January 12 2022. From this assessment, Tanger Med achieved a “ new record in Mediterranean” with 7,173,870 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent) containers handled, i.e. a growth of 24% compared to compared to 2020. In addition, 101,054,713 tonnes of goods and 429,509 new vehicles handled, plus 407,459 TIR trucks handled. Thus goods, new vehicles and TIR trucks experienced growth of 25%, 14% and 20% respectively. In terms of liquid bulk traffic, the complex recorded 8,744,900 tonnes of hydrocarbons handled (9% growth) and 342,804 tonnes for solid bulk (13% growth). Maritime traffic counts 10,902 ships calling, which represents an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. Regarding the movement of passengers, the port declared 587,320 passengers, a figure down 14% compared to 2020, but justified by the global health context.
