After ten years as Tim Cook, CEO Apple is the most valuable company in the world, one of the most influential, has sold two billion phones and growth seems unstoppable. Steve Jobs was a visionary, promoting groundbreaking ideas and products. Tim Cook managed to sell them. Let’s go through the milestones in the career of Tim Cook and his ten-year boss at Apple.
Tough decision
Z From today’s point of view, it may seem different, but when Tim Cook considered joining Apple in 1998, it was not a clear choice at all. Sales of Macs were declining at the time, and revolutionary products such as the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad had not been in development for many years. Tim had a successful career. He earned an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in 1988 and was among the top 10% of students.
He did not escape the attention of IBM, where he quickly worked his way up to high positions. After a 12-year stint, he moved to Intelligent Electronics and briefly to Compaq Computer Corporation; he played important roles in both companies. In the latter, however, he lasted only half a year and an offer from Apple landed on his desk.
But it was a big challenge for Tim Cook. Less than a year after taking office, he worked his way up to the role of vice president and made a significant contribution to the return of funds to black numbers. He was in charge of the Macintosh division, developing these products and maintaining relationships with resellers around the world.
