Tesla Model 3 and Model Y: New feature starting this year

Since 2022, new customers of Tesla’s Model 3 and Y can also use heated wipers. Heated wipers are no longer an exclusive feature. This could possibly mean a trend reversal for the company.

• Tesla’s Model 3 and Y get heated windshield wipers
• Heating wires heat parts of the windshield where the wiper blades are located
• Hackers spreads rumors about the new feature
Tesla is constantly developing new additional functions for its electric cars. This includes heated windscreen wipers. These were previously an exclusive feature of the Model S. As “Drive Tesla Canada” reports, heated wipers will also be available to new customers of Model 3 and Y vehicles from 2022.

Name of the feature seems misleading

However, the term “windscreen wiper heating” is not entirely correct in this context and appears misleading. It is not the wipers themselves that are heated. According to Drive Tesla Canada, heating wires only heat parts of the windshield where the wiper blades are located. This melts the ice on the windshield and prevents the rubber lips from freezing. Drive Tesla Canada relies on information from

Twitter user TeslaOwnersMA, who was in contact with an employee at a Chinese Tesla plant. As the employee reports, Tesla continues to subject the new function to various tests. However, production should start soon. The new feature will be available first in China and then in North America. TeslaOwnersMA tweeted a picture of the device that controls the heated wipers on the Tesla Model Y.

Forget heated seats, forget heated steering wheel, but now heated wipers for the @Tesla Model 3 and Y for 2022! pic.twitter.com/ithvPB1t2n

New feature could mean trend reversal of function reduction

As Drive Tesla Canada reports, in a December 2021 post on the short message service, hacker and Twitter user greentheonly spread the rumor that heated windscreen wipers will be an add-on feature in Tesla’s Model 3 and Y. This now seems to have come true. According to the hacker, many other changes that were announced for 2022 have not been implemented.

I am sure all interested people have seen https://t.co/w4EtUfp1Hc – well it looks Tesla forgot to mention that they are also adding windshield wiper heaters (optional?) and some battery options

December 10, 2021 In recent years, Tesla has removed many additional features. Drive Tesla Canada suspects that this trend will no longer continue due to the installation of heated wipers in more models. This would mean that Tesla will continue to build more new additional functions into its vehicles in the future. Evidence for this assumption could be the reinstallation of the plastic cover next to the pedals in the Model 3. As Drive Tesla Canada emphasizes, the manufacturer has thus complied with the wishes of its customers. M.
