The Hot Wheels license is certainly known by almost everyone who will read this review. At least I hope so. Hot Wheels Unleashed offers a very arcade racing experience and in theory very fun! Is this the case? Answer in a few races and a few surprise boxes!

When you start to enter the game world, you find yourself on a map to explore, with races of different types. Classic races, time trials and boss races of which there are five in total. The multiplayer mode is also part of the game and I can say with pleasure that it works very well on console.
Graphically very beautiful.
The test was performed on PS5 and the game is extremely smooth to say the least. The feeling of speed is there permanently even if it is perfectly possible to have collision concerns, in particular on the edges of each circuit in the event of a jump. Several events will also disrupt the races and the physics regarding the weight of the vehicles is extremely small. Obviously, this goes hand in hand with the small cars of our childhood. The whole thing gives a very fun feeling of the game and the nitro will always help you accelerate. Also remember to skid to take the turns and to make turbo starts. Who said Mario Kart ?

The other interest of the game is to collect small cars obviously. Several dozen models are in the spotlight, whether in the Hot Wheels universe, cars from real manufacturers’ brands or for pop culture licenses accessible from the release of the game or in DLC to come. Obviously, the vehicles are customizable in terms of aesthetics but also performance . And you will unlock customization items for your home of course. Last icing on the cake, the circuit editor is very nice to use once you have passed the first tests phase. Some trial and error will happen but the possibilities are almost endless!
Collecting cars is a real pleasure.The AI question and whatnot.
The first thing to say is that AIs are sometimes erratic. Concretely, it is difficult to predict their behavior in the race, but if you manage to take the lead, everything will be fine. The game is meant to be accessible and it does well. Small important clarification concerning the elements of chance in the surprise boxes: it can happen to recover duplicates so do not hesitate to dismantle them to have parts, very useful to reinforce your cars. The 6 environments offered by the game may seem few in number but the variety of circuits more than compensates for this impression of repetitiveness which, in the end, does not really exist. The particular elements of the circuits are to be noted for the spice of races and time trials. Moreover, it is preferable to have a car dedicated to this type of event.

If the constitutive elements of Hot Wheels Unleashed can seem very classic, the fact of being able to drive with vehicles as well known as they are wacky and this very easily reinforces the interest of this title. The accessibility of controls makes this game a must for the whole family and while video games often tend to become more complex over the years, this little bubble of fresh air and fun is a pleasure to see. If you love arcade racing, Hot Wheels Unleashed is a must have, nothing less!
