Tests de Sakhir, J2 : Lawson domine l’après-midi

Liam Lawson est le premier pilote à passer sous la minute 42 sur un tour lors de ces essais d’avant-saison à Bahreïn. Quelques équipes ont choisi de mener des simulations de qualifications l’après-midi, mais seul le Néo-Zélandais de Carlin est parvenu à tourner en 1.41, quasiment cinq dixièmes devant Boschung et Pourchaire, tous deux avec le même chrono.

MATIN

Après une première journée difficile hier pour Jüri Vips (trois drapeaux rouges), l’Estonien a pu avoir une matinée de travail productive où il a pu enchaîner les longs relais, comme ses concurrents. Vips termine la matinée en tête, étant le seul pilote sous la minute 47 sur un tour.

Le classement est resté quasiment le même toute la matinée, et six pilotes ont effectué plus de 40 tours, dont quatre du top 10 : Enzo Fittipaldi, Calan Williams, Logan Sargeant et Frederik Vesti.

Il y a eu trois drapeaux rouges lors de cette session : Amaury Cordeel en a causé à lui seul deux, d’abord au virage 8, puis au virage 7. Le troisième arrêt a eu lieu quand la DAMS d’Iwasa s’est arrêtée au virage 2. Au classement final, derrière Vips on retrouve Verschoor, puis les deux Charouz de Bölükbaşı et Fittipaldi. Jake Hughes se classe cinquième, devant Boschung, Williams et Sargeant. Vesti et Hauger concluent ce top 10.

APRES-MIDI

Plusieurs pilotes ont chaussé des pneus neufs lors de cet après-midi, afin de réaliser des tours rapides, mais la séance a été interrompue dès son entame par Marcus Armstrong, qui a touché les barrières au virage 8. Au drapeau vert, Felipe Drugovich s’empare du meilleur chrono en 1.42.907, mais Sargeant va largement améliorer pour placer sa Carlin en haut de la feuille des temps, en 1.42.144, un dixième devant son coéquipier Lawson.

Brièvement, Boschung a réussi à se hisser en première position, mais bien vite Lawson a repris le meilleur temps, cette fois de manière définitive en frappant un grand coup en passant sous la barre de la minute 42 sur un tour, pour la première fois cette semaine.

Lawson intouchable, on retrouve ex-aequo en deuxième position Boschung et Pourchaire. Sargeant et Doohan suivent de près, et les chronos sont décidément serrés, puisque Sato et Vesti signent eux aussi un chrono identique en sixième et septième place. Drugovich, Daruvala et Verschoor terminent également dans le top 10 tandis que Cem Bölükbaşı a réalisé le plus de tours cet après-midi (34).

La dernière journée d’essais de cette semaine aura lieu demain.
