The European Union has approved the use of the third dose of Pfizer vaccine

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved a third dose of Pfizer / BioNTech coronavirus six months after the second dose. The statement was published on the EMA website.

“The EMA Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) assessed the data on Comirnaty indicate an increase in antibody levels when the booster dose is administered approximately 6 months after the second dose in people aged 18 to 55 years. On the basis of these data, the Committee concludes that additional doses can be considered at least 6 months after the second dose for people over the age of 18, ”the statement reads.

The Committee is also evaluates the data on the booster dose of Spikevax (Moderna) and reports the results when the evaluation is completed.

“The Committee concludes that an additional dose of Covid-19 Comirnaty (BioNTech / Pfizer) ) and Spikevax (Moderna) can be administered to people with severely weakened immune systems, at least 28 days after the second dose, “- said in a statement.

By the way, earlier WHO Director-General Tedros Adhan Gebreyesus called on countries to impose a two-month moratorium on coronavirus vaccination in third, “booster” doses.

Tedros encouraged such countries to share what can be used for third doses with other countries so that they can cover more people with vaccinations. He noted that he was disappointed with the way rich countries donated drugs to countries where basic doses had not yet been vaccinated.
