Making science and innovation efficient tools for the development of productions in our country is an aspiration that is now consolidated in the various spheres of the economy. This is the case with the Light Industry, whose business group dedicated a space, this Thursday, at the Palacio de las Convenciones, to present sector programs from 2022 to 2026, which seek to substitute imports and produce with competitive qualities.
Inés María Chapman Waugh, Deputy Prime Minister, who chaired the event, paid special attention to the program on the production of toothpaste with national raw materials, a strategy that must be retaken, and not only for the preparation of pasta, since it depends on the sustainability of our entire industry and that the country can save foreign currency.
The challenges along this path, he said, are to be systematic; Each research project, of the 14 that this program has, must have indicators and goals, and thus meet them. In addition, we must plan that the product is friendly to the environment, make use of the circular economy and achieve commercial innovation, even for exports.
The Minister of Industries also considered it , Eloy Álvarez Martínez, who added that the programs presented, in general, are not more than the beginning of the entire process of creation that is wanted, and the main challenge is in satisfying the demands of the strategic sectors of the national territory and those of the population.
Work has been done on these goals. Yohanda Ramos Rodríguez, director of the ueb Suchel Frarancia and head of the Toothpaste project for the launch of the program, explained that this product is expected to contain at least 75% of Cuban raw materials, without losing quality.
Of this ideal, only a part has been achieved today, but if it is realized it means saving an import cost of about 2,700 or more than 3,400 USD for the production of only one ton of toothpaste.
The call is now open, they reported, for companies, academia and other institutions to join, and contribute to making expectations come true, which include not only satisfying national consumption, but also developing original technologies that allow obtain patents, and publish and defend research.
And it does not only cost the importation of inputs to manufacture toothpaste, but rather all the products of the companies associated with the light industry, which in value Approximately 185 million pesos, a program that aims to develop productions, technologies and mitigation of environmental impacts is also essential.
Evys Della Herrera, director of the Center for Research and Development of the Light Industry (Cidil), argued that this program contains about 46 projects between January 2022 and December 2026, while among the lines of work is the incorporation of nanomaterials in textile activity, or the application of design for development of new products or improvements to existing ones, such as paints, cleaning and cosmetics, etc.
The impact, he stressed, could be in the development of eight new products, ten new or improved technologies, as well as in the generation of exportable funds.
In general, summarized the president of Gempil, Mirla Díaz Fonseca, these sector programs aim to transform and modernize all the industrial activities of the sector, from f gradual form and prioritizing the products with the greatest impact, combined everything with innovative development, import substitution and export orientation.
As none of this is possible if there is no link with the academy, Mirla Díaz Fonseca and Marta Dunia Delgado, PhD in Sciences, first vice-rector of Cujae, signed the cooperation agreement between both institutions.
