Bucharest has entered the red scenario, after the incidence rate of covid-19 cases rose to over 6 per thousand inhabitants.
Students will be tested at school
In this sense, Alexandru Rafila proposed that the schools should not be closed, no matter how many cases there will be, and this is because the students will be traumatized. Now, Prime Minister Florin Cîțu has confirmed that the elimination of the infection threshold of 6 per thousand inhabitants for schools is being discussed. Instead, the authorities are considering introducing saliva tests in schools, and have even had a meeting to discuss this issue. Florin Cîțu stated that there was a meeting between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, DSU and INSP.
What kind of tests do the authorities want to introduces in schools
The Prime Minister also spoke about the fact that schools should no longer be closed if the incidence exceeds the threshold of 6 per thousand.
“Yes, it is an idea to have even above the threshold of 6 per thousand institutions that should not be closed. We will see what the conclusion of this meeting is. We want to maintain a physical presence in schools. We are thinking about introducing saliva tests “, the prime minister declared.
The Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday that 99% of parents do not want to test their children, which the prime minister considers “sad”.
“Maybe we try saliva tests. We will see how we can do it, but the intention remains to have schools with a physical presence. We know very well that the online school did not have the best results last year “, said Florin Cîțu.
What the Minister of Education says
Asked if the test is compulsory for all students, the prime minister said that the final option will be discussed, but the authorities want to use this non-invasive test to “be much simpler”. The Minister of Education spoke about the fact that schools could remain open and above the threshold of 6 per thousand.
„ I received 183 petitions at the ministry – parents, teachers – for the online transfer of the school and 175 petitions for keeping the schools open with physical presence. We will not decide based on this difference, there are many antagonistic proposals. Some want to close once they reach the threshold of six per thousand, they are very scared, “said the Minister of Education on Tuesday.
