Paramount Pictures’ “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is set to top the Christmas box-office, the title taking in a further $7.5 million on Tuesday and slated to pull in around $50 million domestically between Wednesday and Sunday to add to its $77.6 million gross in its first five days.
The movie also internationally today and is expected to do big business overseas, but those numbers won’t really come in until Friday.
“Mufasa: The Lion King” came in second with $7.1 million on Christmas eve and is headed for $45 million over the five-day holiday frame to add to its $49.6 million gross over its first five days.
The film has also pulled in around $100 million overseas so far, but opened in many of those markets last week unlike “Sonic”.
Three newcomemrs join the frey – the Timothee Chalamet-led Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” Robert Eggers’ vampire tale “Nosferatu” and Nicole Kidman erotic thriller “Babygirl”.
‘Unknown’ took $1.4 million in Tuesday previews and is tipped to pull in $15 million over the five days. “Nosferatu” and “Babygirl” didn’t report preview numbers and are expected to pull in $25 million and $7 million respectively by end of Sunday.
“Moana 2” and “Wicked” are tracking for $22 million and $20 million five-day hauls respectively.
