Zoë Kravitz is killing it right now as Catwoman in the Robert Pattinson-led film “The Batman,” which debuted at No. 1 at the box office this weekend. However, in a recent interview with The Observer, the 33-year-old star shared that she was turned down for a role in the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises.”
“I don’t know if it came directly from Chris Nolan,” Kravitz said after revealing she was considered “too urban” for the 2012 film. “I think it was probably a casting director of some kind, or a casting director’s assistant.” She also suggested it wasn’t for the role of Catwoman, played by Anne Hathaway.
Kravitz, who is biracial, went on to praise her equally famous parents, Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, for helping to feel more comfortable in her Blackness. She explained, “They both dealt with being artists who didn’t act or dress or look or sound the way a Black person was supposed to act in terms of what white people specifically were comfortable with.” She added that they were “focused on trying to make sure I understood that despite the color of my skin I should be able to act or dress or do whatever it is I want to do.”
