One out of the three cables that were damaged in a fire in Yuen Long on Tuesday, which led to a power outage overnight for some 160,000 residents in western New Territories, has been reactivated, according to a press release by CLP Power issued on Friday.
This comes after around 13,000 residents in Yuen Long were affected by further power failures on Thursday night.
“After tremendous effort by CLP Power’s engineering teams in laying the three replacement 132kV high-voltage cables, the first cable was successfully energized at 3am today,” the statement read.
“This new cable is able to reinforce power supply capability and enhance the reliability of the power system in the region.”
It added that they target to complete the cable laying works for the remaining two cables and have them activated on or before next Tuesday.
The power company apologized again for the inconvenience caused to the affected customers.
“We will continue to closely monitor the electricity supply in the region and arrange redeployment if needed,” it said.
It added that customers can call its dedicated hotline at 2728 8333 for enquiry.
The company said that the second power outage in the district in three days was caused by the unstable electricity supply after the restoration of electrical services in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun on Wednesday.
Following the resumption of services, CLP urged residents to save energy as the supply of electricity remains unstable.
But the city has been facing a heat wave since early this week, which is expected to continue for several days.
A very hot weather warning, which was hoisted on Wednesday morning, remains in force.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the city recorded its highest temperature of the year on Thursday.
The first power outage plunged the districts into darkness and prompted a suspension of train services between Tsuen Wan West and Tuen Mun MTR stations of the Tuen Ma Line on Tuesday.
Some services at hospitals in the districts were also affected.
