13-November: when the pain of the victims collides with the “coldness” of the compensation process

TESTIMONIES – In parallel with the trial, the victims Parisian attacks are faced with long procedures in order to be compensated.

A real “obstacle course. ” Since September 8, some 2000 civil parties from the November 13 attacks embarked on a legal marathon, a painful stage of which began on Tuesday: their hearing before the specially composed Assize Court. For five weeks, survivors and relatives of victims will parade at the bar to deliver their pain or salute the memory of a disappeared.

In the background, another ordeal, less publicized, torments many people affected from near or far through attacks: their compensation as victims of terrorism. Almost six years later, disputes persist with the Compensation Fund for Victims of Terrorism (FGTI), the body responsible for determining who can receive compensation and its amount. A battle both legal and administrative experienced by some as “a second trauma.”
