The Glimt players could smell victory in the air

Bodø / Glimt played a draw away against CSKA Sofia.

CSKA SOFIA – BODØ / GLIMT 0-0 Erik Botheim thinks he had decided to go for goal as he struck the ball from the corner of the pitch. – It’s completely sick, it’s not shit. It destroys the match, says Botheim just after the match in Bulgaria.

Started weak

On Thursday night, the stage was set for a new settlement in the new European tournament called the Conference League. Bodø / Glimt managed to qualify, and is Norway’s representative in a European group game this season. After a magnificent match against Zorya Luhansk at Aspmyra in the first group match, Glimt chased a new three points on Bulgarian soil. It was the hosts who opened the match in Sofia, but then the northerners woke up. – After fifteen minutes, Bodø discovered that they have the upper hand in midfield, said Uwe Rösler in the Viasat studio after the first half.

Overtime goal canceled

With a few seconds left in overtime, Erik Botheim headed the ball into goal, but the referee blew a free kick to the hosts. This led to major protests from Glimt, who thought the goal was incorrectly canceled. – Absolutely scandal, said Uwe Rösler right after the match. – I completely agree, says Lillestrøm player Pål André Helland who thinks Glimt was cheated for three points. – It is a fantastic achievement by Botheim. It’s a shame, Helland thinks. Watch video of the protests here:

Damage in the protests

A clearly stated Kjetil Knutsen set a steady course against the referee trio just after the end of the match. – I react very much and run on a stretch, Knutsen says just after the match. He thinks it so strange that the goal should be canceled, something he did not hide when he protested against the referees after the match. – I tell the referee that it is a disaster that he can cancel such an obvious goal.

Solid performance

Despite Glimt spending a quarter of an hour getting started, they took the lead in the match and produced several good opportunities. Unfortunately for the guests, “the little extra” was missing in the last third. – We were happy after the match at Aspmyra, and we are definitely happy with the first rounds that have taken place in Sofia, said Viasat commentator Roar Stokke when the teams went to the break. In the second half, Bodø / Glimt pressed their Bulgarian opponent. Ola Solbakken had two great opportunities, but the online knowledge was lacking. Thus, the match could have been decided before the controversial Botheim cancellation in overtime.

Outstanding save

Bodø / Glimt controlled large parts of the match, but the hosts were a constant threat with a lot of counter-strength. Just a few minutes before the end, CSKA Sofia got a gigantic opportunity. Geferson raised the ball perfectly to Jordy Caicedo, but the Ecuadorian was stopped by a magnificent save by Glimt’s last defense. Nikita Haikin kept up with the reaction of the rare, and got the ball lifted over the crossbar. Thus, Kjetil Knutsen could breathe a sigh of relief on the sideline. Mourinho is waiting

One point away against CSKA Sofia is by no means a weak result for Glimt. After two matches, the reigning league champion in Norway is in second place in group C. It is one point down to Thursday’s Bulgarian opponent, who by the way has a much weaker goal difference. Next match, the big team Roma will visit Aspmyra. The team is led by coach icon Jose Mourinho, who comes to northern Norway with high self-esteem after shredding both CSKA Sofia and Zorya Luhansk the first two matches. The match between Bodø / Glimt and Roma will be played on Thursday 21 October at 18.45.
