The Saudi Digital Academy has signed a deal with Chinese telecommunications and electronics giant Huawei regarding the development of local talent in the technology sector, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency on Thursday.

The deal was signed by the Saudi Digital Academy’s CEO, Mohammed Al-Suhaim, and the Deputy CEO of Huawei Tech Investment in Saudi Arabia, Steven Liu, on the sidelines of the international technological conference LEAP.

Under the deal, the two sides will cooperate in launching several projects relying on the Huawei Academy for Information Technology and Communications, which was jointly established by Huawei’s subsidiary in Saudi Arabia and The Royal Commission Yanbu Colleges & Institutes in 2017.

About 8,000 qualified Saudi individuals are expected to be developed through the Huawei-accredited program of certificates in information technology and communications. These workers will specialize in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cyber security and 5G networks.

In the coming years, the two sides will also make joint efforts to organize an annual Huawei competition for information technology and communication in the Middle East, held in 2021 and coordinated by the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

A range of other activities are going to be held to exchange knowledge, whereby Huawei will provide accredited certificates for 100 Saudi instructors through the academy’s training program.

It is worth mentioning that China is currently Saudi Arabia’s largest trading partner. The Middle Eastern country also recently invested several billion dollars in the metaverse, blockchain and other emerging technologies.
