Sony Pictures India’s surprise superhero announcement got the 90s kids excited!

Sony Pictures India has made a surprise announcement that got the 90s kids so excited. The studio confirmed that it is all set to adopt an Indian superhero TV series into an epic feature film franchise. This has been the trending talk among the netizens, especially the 90s kids after the announcement was made.

Shaktimaan is a famous Indian (Hindi language) superhero television show that aired on DD National. The series had 450 episodes aired over a period of almost eight years from 1997 to 2005. It is one of the most successful Indian superhero characters which garnered a huge craze, especially among the children. The show was followed by Shaktimaan: The Animated Series in 2011, and a television film titled Hamara Hero Shaktimaan in 2013.

Producer Mukesh Khanna played the role of Shaktimaan and his alter ego ‘Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastriji’. Now, Sony Pictures India has decided to adopt the superhero into feature films after almost 25 years. The production house has acquired the film adaptation rights for the character. All updates including the cast and crew will be announced by the makers real soon.

Yesterday, Sony Pictures India launched a short concept video on Twitter announcing the new Shaktimaan film. The video shows a flying camera and glasses, which were signature accessories of Shaktimaan’s alter ego journalist Gangadhar Shastri, followed by the emblem on the superhero’s chest. The text in the video reads, “As darkness and evil prevail upon humanity, it’s time for him to return.” The promo then gives a better look at the superhero’s costume.

Sony Pictures International Productions is set to bring ‘Shaktimaan’ to the big screen, and will recreate the magic of the iconic superhero, to be headlined by one of India’s superstars.
