Cuba rejects the use of social networks to promote hatred

The rejection of the use of social networks to promote hate speech, incitement to violence and subversion, was expressed by the Minister of Communications of Cuba, Mayra Arevich Marín, at the World Internet Conference 2021, held in the Chinese city of Wuzhen.

During her speech, virtually, at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Cyberspace, the headline condemned the spread of fake news and misrepresentation of reality for political purposes and as a tool for interventionism.

According to Prensa Latina, the Minister stressed that the use of such platforms must be consistent with the purposes of maintaining international peace and security and to accelerate development, and not to perpetrate terrorist acts and other criminal actions.

Arevich Marín urged nations to develop norms for responsible behavior of citizens and businesses in cyberspace. He reiterated Cuba’s commitment to strengthen cooperation, solidarity and the exchange of experiences, “with the purpose of creating a shared future on the internet characterized by inclusion and the benefit of all humanity.”

In addition, it repudiated the application of unilateral coercive measures against Cuba, exacerbated by the United States Government in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
