Moshiri could save Everton £9.1m by ruthlessly axing “struggling” 26 y/o flop

Everton have become renowned for their reckless spending and poor decision making on signings ever since Farhad Moshiri arrived six years ago, which has now put them in a position of doubt when it comes to Financial Fair Play, however, a new development could save the club millions.

What’s the word?

Everton confirmed on Monday evening that they had agreed a deal to loan Jean-Philippe Gbamin to Russian side CSKA Moscow until the end of the current campaign.

Everton have not played in Europe since the 2017/18 Europa League. But who did they last face in the competition?

Moshiri could save millions

Despite the transfer only being a loan deal, if Gbamin proves to be effective for the Russian side, Moshiri could save millions ahead of the summer transfer window on the player’s wages over the remaining two and a half years left on his contract.

The 26-year-old who was criticised for “struggling” by Jamie Carragher, is currently on £75k-per-week, so the club could save up to £9.1 million on his wages, depending on the negotiated contract terms for the initial loan deal at CSKA Moscow, and could make further money on a permanent deal in the summer if the player is moved on.

Has Gbamin been given a chance at Everton?

In terms of Gbamin’s career at Everton, the Ivorian national will be well aware that he has fallen even further down the pecking order since Donny Van de Beek joined the side in January on loan and with his position covered by the new signing, it is unlikely he will get any further game time moving forward so the move would be the best decision for both parties.

The £9m-rated defensive midfielder has only made eight appearances since he joined the Toffees in 2019, so it won’t be a loss for the club if he does make the move and could potentially benefit his future career during his time away on loan. He could get more chances to play first-team football to attract potential moves ahead of the summer transfer window.
