Rumours are swirling that Australia will soon have its own version of iconic comedy series The Office.
The Herald Sun is reporting the show – which could air on Amazon Prime Video – has already begun approaching potential cast members.
The News Corp paper said the series is expected to film in Sydney mid-year and will be produced by Bunya Productions.
It cited various people who have been rumoured to be associated with the project including comedian Jim Jeffries and actor Isla Fisher.
Apparently both stars are not actually involved.
The lead character will reportedly be a female, unlike its UK and US counterparts.
In the UK, Ricky Gervais – co-creator of the series – played the lead character David Brent.
Brent saw himself as a loveable rogue, while others perceived the general manager of the Slough branch of Wernham Hogg paper merchants as annoying, inconsiderate and childish.
In the US, Steve Carell played the lead character, Michael Scott.
He was similarly a poor manager who saw himself as more effective and talented than he actually was.
The Herald Sun said Magda Szubanski, Rachel Griffiths and Kartina Milosevic have been approached to star in the remake.
Should the rumours prove true, it would be just the latest international series to get an Aussie spin.
Channel 10 and Paramount+ recently revealed the NCIS franchise would be getting a local spin-off NCIS: Sydney.
Over on Channel 7, meanwhile, celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge will star in the Gordon Ramsay favourite Kitchen Nightmares.
