TVB Denies Implementing Extreme Measures to Reduce Filming Delays

Many Hong Kong artistes have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent weeks and were required to self-isolate. As a result, many TVB filming projects had to suspend production until March 20, amassing an estimated loss totaling eight figures.

The production delays will not only deplete funds and impact the company financially, but also greatly slows down filming progress and affects the overall production chain. The trickle-down effect impacts the livelihoods of many of its workers.

According to recent reports, TVB executives are concerned about the indefinite halting of production and are now considering alternative methods to allow resumption of work. Allegedly, cast and crew will be tested 72 hours before admitting them into the building. While filming at the studios, they must stay at the company dorm for three weeks and will not be allowed to leave. Restrooms, bathing facilities, sleeping spaces, food, and daily necessities will be provided.

Several artistes, including Mandy Lam(林淑敏), Toby Chan (陳庭欣), Bowie Cheung (張寶兒), and Kenneth Ma (馬國明) have expressed their support of the idea and are willing to cooperate with the company’s arrangements.

However, Wong Tak Wai (黃德慧), Director of the Corporate Communications, denied that TVB is taking such extreme measures to continue filming. She noted that only the internal administrative staff  are working to prepare budget work and there are no plans to film any programs under an “enclosed environment” with dorming arrangements at this time.
