The BMW M3 Touring Just Launched, And We Love It’s New Estate-ish Avatar

While we don’t know what happens behind the scenes at BMW, whoever pitched the idea of turning the M3 into an Estate Car was either scared of getting fired or hoping to get a pay bump. Either way, we’re happy that they did so.

Yesterday, the German auto giant unveiled its all-new BMW M3 Touring, which combines practicality with the M-performance car, and we’re loving it. First things first, the design, which would’ve been the trickiest element to nail down with the M3 touring, is spot on.

It has this “estate-like” appeal to but with a slant of aggressiveness that’s characteristic to an M car, all of which comes through with the car’s sporty front fascia and an overall sleek look. The ride height has also been compressed so to speak, to give it a more spirited look. At the back, it features the company’s signature tail lamp design, which goes rather well with the more aggressive-looking diffuser and quad exhaust pipes.

Of course, being an estate, special attention has been given to the practicality aspect. The boot now opens up to a 500-litres of storage space, which can be expanded to 1,510 litres if need be, by folding down the rear seats.

Step inside and you’ll notice BMW’s twin floating displays, one which acts as a digital driver’s display, while the other, as an infotainment unit. All of it comes with the company’s i-Drive 8 functionality as well.

Under the hood sits a 3.0-litre, inline-six petrol engine, which churns out 510PS of power. Transmission here is handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels. And yes, it is quick on its feet, too. The M3 Touring can make a 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.6 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.

There’s been no confirmation if the M3 Touring will make it to our shores anytime soon. However, we are keeping our fingers crossed, just in case.
