Though it has not been officially announced, there have long been rumors of another “Assassin’s Creed” single-player game coming, one that boasts a smaller scale than “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla” and will be released before the live-service “Assassin’s Creed: Infinity” title arrives.

For the last few months, it has been going by the codename “Assassin’s Creed Rift,” but a new report has surfaced offering a multitude of apparent details about the game.

French YouTuber j0nathan was the first to report the leak about the title which will reportedly be called “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” and will unfold a decade before the events of ‘Valhalla’ in the mid-late 9th century.

This time however, the action takes place in Baghdad during the Anarchy in Samarra, when the Abbasid Caliphate – an empire spanning an area from Tunisia to Pakistan – saw the violent succession of four different caliphs over the span of less than a decade.

The story will reportedly follow the ‘Valhalla’ character of Basim Ibn Ishaq as a thief during his early days and how Loki eventually took over his body and consumed him.

The game is said to be back-to-basics for the franchise, with strong inspiration from the very first “Assassin’s Creed” title, with fewer RPG elements, including no dialogue choices, no gender choice, and removal of the level system. Eagle Vision is back, along with the ‘drone bird’.

The report also suggests Ubisoft is secretly preparing a remake of the 2007 first game using Mirage’s assets – that remake will be integrated into a Season Pass, which will also include DLC in Constantinople. The plan is for a Spring 2023 release for ‘Mirage’ with Ubisoft to unveil details on September 10th as part of the Ubisoft Forward event.

Bloomberg’s reliable scooper Jason Schreier has followed up the report, saying that he has heard the same info with much of the leak seemingly being on the money, but some parts of it are not – such as the original report’s suggestion there are “multiple cities to explore”.

The first “Assassin’s Creed” remains the only main entry in the series not to be playable on modern consoles. The most recent game in the series was “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” which hit stores in November 2020.
