The RTX 4080 will be up for sale starting today. Compared to the RTX 4090, the latest rumors suggest the GPU is in short supply at major retailers. On the other hand, the RDNA 3-based RX 7900 XT and the RX 7900 XTX are expected to have much better stock compared to the RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080.

We reported earlier that the launch stock for the GeForce RTX 4080 could be substantially less than the RTX 4090. The information came to us courtesy of Tom from the Moore’s Law Is Dead YouTube channel. Reviews for the RTX 4080 went live yesterday, and the card is scheduled to go on sale today (November 16). To expound on the actual RTX 4080 inventory situation on launch day, the leaker has now shared some more information from his retail sources.

RTX 4080 supply

Per Tom, the RTX 4080 stock is less than the RTX 4090. One source mentions that there may not be another restock of the GPU this year. Another source alleges that the initial RTX 4080 supply is “roughly half” compared to the RTX 4090 which is in line with the previous rumor of 20-40% less supply vs the flagship Lovelace card.

A different source even goes as far as to suggest that the RTX 4080 supply is “laughable” as the nationwide stock is “nothing” compared to previous gen launches. However, the availability is reportedly not as dry as the RTX 30 “Ampere” boards. So, you may be able to get one if you are quick and lucky enough.

While most of Tom’s insiders claim no RTX 4080 resupplies for the remainder of 2022, one source implies that there is a possibility of fresh inventory close to the release of the RDNA 3 GPUs.

RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX stock

The Radeon RX 7900 XT and the RX 7900 XTX are AMD’s first RDNA 3 GPUs. The boards will be available for sale starting December 13 at US$899 and US$999 respectively. If the newest details from Tom are true, Team Red’s cards will be much easier to buy than Team Green’s offerings.

One retail source alleges that, according to AMD, “we’ll be getting a lot of RX 7900 XTX supply in December. Many of those will be with the reasonably sized reference cooler too”. Furthermore, the launch numbers of the newest AMD boards could be more than the RTX 4090 as the initial 3-6 weeks are rumored to be big inventory-wise.

In short, if you want a next-gen GPU, it may be wise to wait till mid-December and see what the RX 7900 cards bring to the table.
