Thalapathy Vijay's 'Varisu' inches towards rupees 300 Crores

Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ released on January 11 as a Pongal treat for fans and though it received mixed reviews was well received by the family audiences. In its 3 weeks run at the worldwide box office the Vamshi Paidipally directed film is said to be inching towards the magical Rs. 300 crores mark. The film’s Telugu version ‘Vaarasudu’ has also been well received and is running to full houses in many theaters in the third week.

Info coming in from all over Tamil Nadu suggest that ‘Varisu’ in spite of the tough competition from Ajith’s blockbuster hit ‘Thunivu’ has done phenomenal business. It is running to packed houses after 17 days in Hosur’s Lakshmi Devi theatre. The Pondicherry PVR multiplex is screening twice as many screens than any other movie.

So far Kamal’s ‘Vikram’ directed by Lokesh Kangaraj had the highest footfall in Trichy Mariam Theatre. Now ‘Varisu’ has broken the record. It is the same story at the Thirunindravur Vela Cinemas, Aranthangi VS Theatre. Erode Pallipalayam Jayalakshmi Cinemas theaters etc.

‘Varisu’ has so far said to have collected Rs.193.94 crores in India alone, 10.01 million dollars abroad and a total of 275.69 crores worldwide. Trade pundits opine that the film still has some steam left and will surely breach the Rs. 300 crores mark by the end of its run. This collection plus the digital and satellite rights will take the film’s total gross to Rs. 450 Crores making it one of the biggest blockbusters in India in recent times.

‘Varisu’ produced by Dil Raju and directed by Vamshi Paidipally has music by Thaman and stars Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead. The ensemble supporting cast includes Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Jayasudha, Shaam, Srikanth, Yogi Babu, Prakash Raj, Sangeetha and SJ Suryah.
