South African paramedic Gerco van Deventer is back home with his wife and children. 

Van Deventer, 48, was taken hostage in Libya six years ago and then sold to Al-Qaeda militants.

Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of the humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers, last said there had been no updates as to when Van Deventer would board a flight back to South Africa, since his release on 10 December.
