It has been known for some time that Google had planned the end of some older Android versions in the past few months. The ban was introduced on September 27th. If you are using Android 2.3.7 or even older, you should no longer be able to log into your Google account with the respective device. This has primarily of course reasons in the area of security.

Google gave Android Gingerbread ten years

The Android version mentioned is now a good ten years old. Google is of course not alone with such decisions, also WhatsApp blocks a large number of older Android versions in November. Google pulled the plug on September 27th and announced this step for a long time beforehand . So it doesn’t come as a surprise.

Believes to the data from Statcounter , at least 90% of active Android devices today are equipped with at least Android 7. It should therefore be clear that hardly anyone is out and about with an Android version as old as “Gingerbread”.

Presumably, many other apps have not worked smoothly for a long time, so the end of support from Google is comparatively late.
