ByteDance Denies that ‘TikTok Proposed Transferring Control to the U.S. Government in 2022’

On May 30th, ByteDance issued a statement refuting media reports that claimed “TikTok had proposed transferring control to the U.S. government in 2022.” This information is not true, please do not spread false information.

Earlier, the President of the United States signed a bill on April 24th, stipulating that ByteDance must sell TikTok by January 19th next year, or else face a ban. TikTok has claimed that the bill is unconstitutional and stated that they will challenge such laws in court.

The latest news indicates that a U.S. court will hear lawsuits against the TikTok ban in September. On May 14th, a group of TikTok creators filed a lawsuit to prevent legislation that could potentially prohibit 170 million Americans from using TikTok, stating that after similar lawsuits were filed against TikTok and its parent company ByteDance, this law “has had far-reaching effects on Americans’ lives”.
